Lille Economics and Management (LEM, CNRS UMR 9221) and IÉSEG School of Management invite applications for a fully funded Ph.D. position in Operations Management.

  • IÉSEG is one of the leading French business schools in terms of research. IÉSEG is member of a CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) research lab: LEM.

  • LEM is a research laboratory that comprises the CNRS, the University of Lille and IÉSEG School of Management.
  • LEM comprises about 200 researchers and 100 doctoral students in economics and management.
  • LEM is a young, internationally oriented and dynamic laboratory with a strong scientific ambition.
    • Applicants should have an MSc. (or be close to completion) in operations management, operations research, applied mathematics, industrial/business engineering, econometrics, computer science or related field.
    • Applicants are expected to possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of optimization and game theory, and programming skills (e.g., Matlab, Python, Java, C++…), are highly appreciated.
    • Applicants should be committed to research excellence and to deliver high-quality research.
    • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is appreciated.


    With this research we aim to contribute to the quest for environmental sustainability in operations and supply chain management. A key aspect in this quest, will be the recovery, recycling or remanufacturing of end-of-life products. The research objective is to optimize product design and supply chain collaboration to maximize environmental profitability, while not deteriorating and fairly distributing financial outcomes. How product development and supply chain collaboration contribute to this process will also be impacted by regulations and competition. To develop relevant research models related to this topic, game theory and optimization skills will be essential.

    The Ph.D. student will be supervised by Professors Maud Van den Broeke (click here), Tanja Mlinar (click here) and Stefan Creemers (click here), at the Operations Management Department (click here), IÉSEG School of Management.


    The selected applicant is expected to begin his/her assignment in September 2022. Gross salary will be competitive with other European research and academic institutions. The Ph.D. student will be based in Lille Campus (on the site of IÉSEG School of Management). The Ph.D. student will get all the means and support to engage in innovative business relevant research projects with high potential to get published in international peer-reviewed journals.
